As soon as you have decided when you want to retire, you should contact the Benefits Office. They will supply you with an Application for Pension which you should complete and return. You should apply for your pension two to three months before your retirement to allow sufficient time for the benefit to be processed before you actually stop working and retire.
How Do I Get My Retirement Benefits Started?
To obtain benefits under the Low Rise Pension Plan you must file an application with the administrator. Proof of your age in the form of a birth or baptismal certificate will be required at the time you purchase an annuity. It will also be required for your spouse if you choose a joint and last survivor form of pension.
Please note that you must arrange for the purchase of the annuity from an insurance company of your choice. Alternatively, you can have the balance in your account transferred to a Life Income Fund.
